The price of precious metals like gold, diamond, platinum, etc is shooting up day by day. Sale of such metals by traders in the field of jewellery is not fully transparent. This amounts to unfair trade practices and adulteration of the precious metals with other cheap-toxic as well as radioactive metals like Cadmium, Iridium, Palladium, Ruthenium, etc. Such malpractices have to be detected under the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and the rules made there under in tune with the BIS Standards.
